Sony PSP 2.0 Perks

“Congratulations. You have been hand selected for a very special mission. For the first time, we’re beta testing a title exclusively for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system — SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo. We’d like you to apply to be one of our beta testers. Space is limited, so register today, using only your PSP browser. (You will not be able to register for this beta test any other way.)”

I got that email last night. I went ahead and registered with the 2.0 browser although there is a method that allows you to register without the PSP browser (which I won’t even link to here). People with 1.5 are trying to register so that they don’t have to upgrade to 2.0. This kinda irritates me because either A) the beta test will require 2.0 or B) it will force you to upgrade to 2.0 with the UMD. If you don’t want to lose your homebrew then don’t mess with 2.0 and this beta test. You don’t need to take a beta test slot from someone who actually has 2.0 and wants to test the game.

This was sent out to anyone who’s 18 and is registered with the Playstation site. I haven’t seen all of the details but this looks kinda exciting. This would be the first interesting wireless “infrastructure” game out there. If this game works well, it brings hope that perhaps more companies will support infrastructure mode so that we can play games remotely with others over the internet.

Looks like Sony has decided to make it tough for people to decided to stick with 1.5 over 2.0. Here’s to hoping that someone hacks the PSP to get homebrew to run on 2.0.
